Have made many times, it's requested by co-workers. Changed the Oreo cookie and a single bag of White Choc to Nutter Butter cookies and a bag of peanut butter chips. Was just as good.

the trick to getting the fudge to set firmly so you can cut it into squares is to buy a candy thermometer (sold at bed bath and beyond) and place it in your pot while boiling. allow the mixture to boil until the tempurture hits the line marked "soft ball stage". once it hits this mark you can remove the pot from the heat and follow instructions going forward. good luck!

I agree with Mom2Will, would be better with REAL white chocolate. However so hard to find! Those "white chips" are so sweet, and I even used chocolate wafers instead of oreos (same cookie, but without the filling) to try to cut down on the sweetness. This was sickeningly sweet will never make again.

My family thought this was delicious. It was very easy to make. Would certainly make again. Might even increase the amount of Oreo crumbles in the base of the fudge. It was delicious the way it was, but I personally could have enjoyed a few more cookies in the fudge base. Delicious!

I made this fudge and it tastes amazing! I love it. The only problem I had with it is it did not completely set up like it should have. However, I think that was my fault. I don't think I boiled it long enough. I didn't do a cold water test or anything to check. I have had it in the freezer so it will stay hard enough to cut but it starts getting a little goopy fast. I would definitely try this one again even if turned out the same it's worth the taste.

Abosulutely declicious. Mine turned out perfect .This does need to boil longer than 3 min. The recipe on the marshmallow cream jar for chocolate fantasy fudge says boil 4 min. I have made that plenty of times and I actually boil it about 5 min. I can always tell if the boiling mixture is thickned. Definitely don't want to cook to a crackling stage. I will sometimes have a cup of cold water and take the spoon I was stirrring and let a drop of the mixture go in the water... if it appears too thin then it is not ready.

I love this recipe, because it's quite flexible. First of all, the only way to make this is with white chocolate...NOT the artificially flavored white chips. I reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup, simply because we find that it is too sweet. Finally, I have also substituted the mint oreos! (Just don't ever use double-stuffed oreos!) Enjoy!

Good, but very sweet! Does taste just like a cookies 'n' cream candy bar. To those whose fudge never set... you probably did the same thing I did. I used a regular can of evaporated milk which is 12oz not 5oz. Luckily I caught my mistake early and just doubled the rest of the ingredients to make a double batch. So, I recommend you make sure that your can is only 5oz before pouring the whole thing in!

I followed the directions exactly and the fudge never firmed. I boiled the recommended time and covered and chilled all day and it was goo. The only way to eat it is with a spoon. It does taste great but I wouldn't go to the time and expense to attempt again.

Really, Really good...just enough white chocolate flavor to add to the "cream" component, but not so much that it is screaming white chocolate. Used double stuf oreos which might have gilded the lily, but I didn't care :)

I made these to place in Christmas goodie baskets, did not have any problems with the mixture firming, as they were a perfect fudge consistency, however they were so sweet that one small bite is more than enough. They do taste like a cookie ‘n crème candy bar but a little goes a long way, my husband wasn’t thrilled with them and I am not looking forward to finishing them off, so three stars for ease and presentation, however you have to have a super sweet tooth for these!

This was pretty good and easy to make. I did like the idea of making it in mini muffin tins with liners. That part was a little time consuming. Also, I think I would just go with 2 1/2 cups crushed cookies over all and NOT put any on top. The crumbs are, well, crummy and even after pressing them down they fall off and make it messy to eat. If I make it again I will make it in the pan with no crumbs on top.

FAQs

What's the difference between white chocolate and white fudge? ›

Chocolate uses elements of the cacao bean; even in creating white chocolate, cocoa butter from the cacao bean is the main ingredient. Fudge, however, is a confection made both with and without cocoa or other chocolate elements. You can substitute vanilla or peanut butter, for example, for the chocolate.

Why is my white chocolate fudge not setting? ›

If your fudge turned out super sticky, or it didn't set as it cooled, it probably never got hot enough. This mistake is super easy to avoid if you use a candy thermometer and cook the fudge to the temperature specified in the recipe (usually between 234 and 239°F).

What is cookies and cream fudge made of? ›

MELT white chocolate squares with sweetened condensed milk and salt in heavy saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; stir in crushed cookies. Spread evenly in prepared pan. CHILL 2 hours or until firm.

Is semi sweet or milk chocolate better for fudge? ›

Chocolate: you may use semi-sweet chocolate or dark chocolate. If you want milk chocolate fudge, I suggest using a combination of milk and semi-sweet, so that it's not overly sweet. But this is up to you! You could also use semi-sweet chocolate chips, but I suggest sticking to high-quality chocolate if possible.

Why does white chocolate taste different than regular chocolate? ›

White chocolate is coagulated cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is the vegetable oil that comes from cocoa beans. White chocolate has no cocoa powder in it, which is why it tastes the way it does, and why it is white instead of brown like chocolate is.

Should you stir fudge while it's boiling? ›

You should mix the cream, butter, and sugar when making your fudge, but put down the spoon once it has reached its boiling point. Stirring while your sugar mixture is boiling will only form sugar crystals and make your fudge crunchy rather than silky smooth.

How to make fudge creamy and not grainy? ›

By cooling the fudge prior to agitation (like in the recipes included in this article), on the other hand, you'll get much smaller, finer sugar crystals and a finished fudge with a smooth, creamy texture. Cool the mixture until it reads 120° F on the thermometer—no stirring. This can take 1 to 1/2 hours.

Why isn't my fudge creamy? ›

Fudge usually behaves this way when it's not cooked to a high enough temperature (due to oversight or a faulty candy thermometer). If your fudge is tough, hard, or grainy, then you may have made one of several mistakes: You may have overcooked it, beaten it too long, or neglected to cool it to the proper temperature.

During cooking, sugar crystals can stick to the sides of the pan. If you stir the mixture, these crystals could fall in and crystallize a part of the sugar again.

How do you keep homemade fudge from being grainy? ›

To avoid this, ensure that you stir the fudge mixture consistently and remove any sugar crystals that form on the sides of the pan using a wet pastry brush.

Why is there butter in fudge? ›

Smaller crystals result in a smoother, creamier consistency in the finished fudge. Coarse grainy fudge results when large crystals are allowed to form. Butter is added in the final stages to add flavor and smoothness and inhibit large crystal formation.

What is traditional fudge made of? ›

At its simplest, fudge is a dense, soft candy, often made with sugar and dairy products like butter and milk. Nowadays, fudge is usually flavored with chocolate, but you can utilize pretty much any flavor, such as peanut butter, pumpkin, even birthday cake.

Why is fudge a Michigan thing? ›

By most accounts, the first batch of fudge was concocted in Baltimore in the 1880s. By the turn of the century, fudge-making arrived on Mackinac Island in northern Michigan, which today has a legitimate claim as the modern day fudge capital.

What is white fudge made of? ›

All you have to do is combine a can of sweetened condensed milk, 3 cups white chocolate chips, and 2 tablespoons butter in a pan, cooking until everything has melted together.

What's the difference between fudge and chocolate? ›

Although fudge often contains chocolate, fudge is not the same as chocolate. Chocolate is a mix of cocoa solids, cocoa butter and sometimes sugar and other flavorings and is hard and brittle. Fudge is a mixture of sugar, dairy and flavorings that is cooked and cooled to form a smooth, semi-soft confection.

What's the difference between white chocolate and white creme Reese's? ›

But why is it called white crème instead of white chocolate? Technically, there's no cocoa butter in the white coating. It's made with vegetable oils like shea and sunflower along with milk, sugar, and vanilla extract instead. So it's not really white chocolate, but it pretty much tastes the same!

Is white candy coating the same as white chocolate? ›

Are Candy Melts the Same as White Chocolate? Although they look similar to white chocolate, candy melts are in fact not considered real chocolate. The main difference between candy melts and white chocolate lies in one ingredient: cocoa butter.
