Simplify Thanksgiving with a Turkey Breast:

This easy slow cooker turkey recipe is great for people that prefer boneless turkey breast because it is easy to throw it in the Crock Pot. Although, you can also use bone-in turkey. Either way you will be sure to cook a delicious crockpot turkey breast.

You can also add the meat in as frozen turkey breast or thawed, depending on if you have planned it out the night before. The best way to produce a tender turkey breast is to cook it for the perfect amount of time.

The size turkey breast will determine if you can feed a smaller crowd, or a larger one. Make sure to decide how much turkey breast you will need ahead of time.

Once you have your turkey you will want to gather fresh herbs to ensure your turkey will have great flavor at your family dinner or thanksgiving event. 1. Deon | ipinnedit.com says:

I have had fabulous luck doing a turkey breast in my slow cooker! We don't really go for the dark meat anyway, so this is a totally easy way to get moist, wonderful turkey meat, even if for nothing else than to have your own leftovers when you don't really get leftovers cuz you're not hosting and have no leftovers to call your own! :D

  2. J says:

This recipe sounds wonderful, and I can't wait to try it. Does the turkey have to "rest" before carving? Thanks!

  3. Jessica says:

That sounds really delicious! My family really likes nice and crispy skin on the turkey - do you think you could put it under the broiler for a few minutes without it drying out too much?

  4. Liz says:

Thank you for the nice simple recipe for the slow cooker.

  5. Anna says:

This sounded so yummy that I went to the store to get a turkey breast and they were on sale! I got a 6 pounder for 8.75!

  6. Cyd says:

I think that would be fine and wouldn't dry it out. Just keep an eye on it. :)

  7. Cyd says:

We waited about 5 minutes before carving.

  8. Cyd says:

You should be fine making gravy with all the juices in the bottom of the slow cooker.

  9. Amy says:

Stupid question... Do I still need to defrost the turkey breast first before placing in the slow cooker?

  10. deb says:

Was your turkey breast frozen or room temperature when you put it in the crock pot? Thanks!

  11. Cyd says:

It was thawed. Frozen would take a long time to cook.

  12. Nicole says:

About how many people would this recipe serve, assuming you use an 8-9 lb breast?

  13. Cyd says:

It would depend on how big the servings are. We would estimate around 8 servings. Just click on the MAGIC button under the picture and that gives you all of the information on our recipe. This is our new sister site - MyRecipeMagic.com. Great place to look when you are searching for recipes!

  14. lane wilson says:

I have this crock pot I buy it for everyone I know for gifts

  15. Kim says:

Anna, where did you find such a good deal? I am finding really expensive Turkey breasts.

  16. Holly says:

Did you really use an 8 pound BONELESS breast? Where did you find it? I am dying to try this it every meat department looks at me like I'm nuts when I ask for one! Please help!

  17. DeeDee says:

I purchased a pre-cooked 8 pound turkey breast (boneless) by accident. how might i still do this recipe with the pre-cooked breast????

  18. Cristina says:

Making this for Thanksgiving this year!!! Looks awesome and will report back!

  19. Cyd says:

If it is precooked you should follow the directions on the turkey breast package.

  20. Cyd says:

We found it in the thawed meat section in the meat department next to the ground turkey. We have found them at Wal Mart.

  21. Helen says:

May daughter just had open heart surgery on the 7th so we will not be visiting family this year for the holidays, but I'd still like to have a nice dinner. It will mainly just be me and my hubby eating. My son is staying at my mothers until we get the okay that it is safe to have others around my daughter and she will just be turning 1 on the 29th so she is still being introduced to table foods and probably wont eat much. I am totally new to most of this. I cook and bake here and there, but I try to stick to simple and easy things. My questions are... we have a West Bend 5 Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker, would that still work for your recipe? And if so, what size boneless turkey breast do I buy? I am so lost. Lol. Thank you in advance!

  22. Shelly Boeglin says:

Thank you! My parents always did the turkey, but now mom down with the flu. I am a vegetarian and want to cook for my brother and dad. I will follow this recipe! :) Happy Thanksgiving!

  23. Cyd says:

Hi Helen! Your 5 quart oblong shaped slow cooker will be perfect. You could buy a 6 to 9 pound one as directed in the recipe. Or you could go a little smaller if you wanted to. Just before to check it now and then if it is smaller. It may not take as long to cook. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sure you are feeling so blessed that your daughter is doing so well. Sending prayers your way! :)Cyd (mom of the six sisters)

  24. Kiera says:

I bought 2 3pound turkey breasts. Should I reduce the amount of ingredients? Also, do you put the water/soup mix just on the top or all over the breast?

  25. Cyd says:

Rub the water/soup mix over all the turkey breasts. Then add the rest of the seasonings on top. Hope this helps. :)

  26. KIMBERLY HONEYCUTT says:

I have made something very similar to this recipe in the past. It is amazing, however, the downfall for us is our dogs can not enjoy some turkey since it has onion soup mix in it. Last year I changed it up a bit, I omitted the onions, and replacing the onion soup mix with 3-Ramon Noodle Chicken season powder packs( the little silver packets of seasoning the Ramon Noodles have in the them, not the noodles). I first put a light glaze of corn syrup then sprinkled on the powder. Doing this again this year. Love this website, thanks ladies.

  27. Hilary says:

I made this with an 111/2 pound jenny o turkey and added the drippings from the turkey and the gravy packet and my finance said it was the best turkey gravy hes had in a long time!

  28. Andrea says:

I made this for Thanksgiving yesterday... Oh My... it was something else. Since it's just the hubs and I, it's more suitable quantity for us and a few days of leftovers vs a full size turkey. It was good and very tasty. Honestly- if I was to do it again- I would totally make it the day before, because seriously it tastes even better today. White meat is kinda bland and dry and while it was not dry... it was meh... We did let it rest about 5-10 mins before carving, I removed from crock and covered in foil. After dinner and after it had cooled a great deal- I pulled it off the bones (didn't take much coaxing) and HOLY MOLY! Today it's so FLAVORful!!! and not sure how- but even more moist and tender. Oh and the gravy... Oh my.. okay... enough rambling.

  29. dawn says:

Can you tell me how roasting a turkey in a slow cooker impacts gravy. Thanks,Dawn

  30. Cyd says:

We used the drippings and added our flour/water combination and made gravy in a separate pan. Turned out great!

  31. Sally says:

That seems like an unusually large amount of garlic powder. Is 2 tbsp correct? It's in the crockpot now and smelling delicious, but I was afraid to use that much garlic powder. Ended up using 1 tbsp.

  32. Sally says:

Just wanted to report back...the turkey was awesome! Thanks for the recipe. It's a keeper. :-)

  33. Wendy Porter says:

Can you use a bone in turkey breast instead of boneless? I don't want to be surprised come Christmas Day :)

  34. Cyd says:

    Bone in works great too!

  35. Kit says:

Just bought 2 turkey breasts at Target yesterday for .99 a lb, so check your Target & Super Target stores! I got the same deal last year too! I plan on trying this recipe very soon!!

  36. Judy says:

How long would you cook a 3 lb breast?

  37. Cyd says:

For about 4 to 5 hours on low.

  38. Tina says:

I have a 5.5 lb turkey. How long should I cook it on low? Also I have only cooked turkey breasts in a rotisserie it comes out crisp and golden brown which is why I use the rotisserie I just struggle with over cooking. If i use the slow cooker will it brown at all? And can u over cook it in a slow cooker?

  39. Cyd says:

It will probably take about 6 to 8 hours on low. It doesn't really brown it like a rotisserie cooker will. If it is overcooked it will just be drier. So check it often so it doesn't overcook, yet you want to be sure it's cooked through.

  40. Kathy says:

HiI have a 8-9 lbs bone in turkey breast. Can I cook it in the slow cooker and use the same type of recipe?

  41. Cyd says:

    That should work just fine!

  42. Michelle says:

I am using this recipe with chicken breasts. Sure seems like A LOT of spices. I wondered if they were supposed to be TEASPOONS and not tablespoons? I used it all as listed above and hoping the chicken is tasty too!

  43. Debbie cooper says:

did you ever add fresh cranberries and also is it really 2 tablespoons of garlic powder, seems like lots of spices amounts

  44. Cyd says:

We have not ever added in fresh cranberries, but it sounds good. You can easily cut back on the garlic powder. The turkey breast should be 6 to 9 pounds. If it was any smaller I would cut the amount in half.

  45. Pam says:

What do you do with the diced onions? Do you stuff them inside the breast, put them on the bottom of the crockpot, or sprinkle them on top of the turkey breast?

  46. Cyd says:

Place them in the bottom, but we also put some on the top because we love onions! It adds so much flavor to the turkey breast!

  47. Kathy says:

This recipe is so good.. What I love most about this recipe is that it is a healthy recipe.. No butter mostly spices and herbs.. I used boneless skinless turkey breasts. I have a large family 9 of us..so I bought 2 of them..and they fit perfectly in the slow cooker.. Everybody loved it.. and I have a hard crowd to please.. Six Sisters.. I have made several of your recipes and you have never let me down. They have all came out so good. Thank you!

  48. Leslie Nelson says:

I've used this recipe several times now and I love it! I cook turkey much more often than Thanksgiving now. God bless!

  49. Nicole says:

Can I add baby carrots during cooking? Have you done that before?

  50. Carol says:

I can only find frozen turkey breasts two 3 oz ones. Do I thaw before I cook in this recipe?

  51. Cyd says:

Yes, thaw the turkey breast first.

  52. Verenique says:

To cook a 3lbs breast do you cut back on the spices or use the same amount?and how long to cook?

  53. Debbie says:

This is the best turkey I've ever had, and I've had a lot of turkey in my life. My dad used to work for Norbest turkeys, so we'd have turkey all the time growing up. I loved how tender the meat in your recipe is, and the great flavor that it had. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!

  54. Jaci says:

I LOVE this turkey! Made two of them last year for the first time (praying the whole time that they turned out as good as they sounded) for about 12 people. Everyone raved about it, so I'm making it again this year for Thanksgiving. Delicious. And most Target stores have the turkey breasts on sale this week for $1.19/pound. Thanks for the wonderful recipe! Happy Thanksgiving!

  55. Cyd says:

You need to cut the other ingredients in half. The cooking time can also be reduced. The internal temperature needs to reach 165 degrees F. Being a smaller turkey breast it should not take as long to cook. Be sure to check it for doneness. :)

  56. Jul says:

Would you know if I could do two turkey breasts together in a large crockpot? If so, would it increase my cooking time? Thank you.

  57. Gail says:

I'm interested in cooking 2 at the same time also.

  58. Brooke says:

Would the cooking time be the same for a bone-in breast? Also, I am worried that 8-9 hours seems like a long time?

  59. Savanna says:

I am totally going to try this! I have that crock pot, thanks for sharing! I don't know why, but I never even thought about doing it in a crock pot!

  60. Jennea says:

I made one a few wks ago and it was about 8 lbs and bone in. Left it in pot on low for about 8.5 hrs and took temp and it was done and very good and moist! Am getting ready to do 2 more for tomorrow!!

  61. Ann says:

I made this today using a 9+ pound bone in turkey breast.I followed the recipe to a T. I have to say this is the best turkey I have ever had!The flavor is addictive and it is the most tender meat imaginable.I cannot stop eating it right off the bone.I don't think I will ever do a whole turkey in the oven again. I willbe finishing off the drippings to make gravy next and can't wait to taste the flavor. On top of it all, you bypass all the mess in dealing with a whole turkey, no need to even slice it since it just falls apart. It is moist, not dry!!Can't thank you enough for sharing this recipe.

  62. Ann says:

Absolutely the best ever! This is a must do recipe, exactly the way it is printed.I can't believe it took me 60+ years to discover this. So many thanks,Ann

  63. Cyd says:

Hi Ann! Thanks for the nice reply! So glad it worked out well for you! Have a Merry Christmas!Cyd (mom of the Six Sisters)

  64. Candi says:

Did you place your turkey breast in the crock pot breast-side down? It is so rare for a recipe to mention if breast should be up or down. I have a bone-in breast. Thank you so much. I really enjoy your website.

  65. Candi says:

Anyone out there have an answer?

  66. Cyd says:

    Breast side up!

  67. Cyd says:

    Breast side up!

  68. Aleesha says:

Should the skin be removed before cooking?

  69. Cyd says:

It's fine to be left on.

  70. Jessica says:

Looks yummy, but 6 -9 lb of turkey breast? that sounds like a lot to me. I usually do 2lbs of meat for a family of 3. Is that measurment correct?

  71. AnGela Raum says:

How did u get it to fit. I bought a 9 lb one & I have an oval one but its too big & lid rest on top of turkey.

  72. AnGela Raum says:

i have oval big crockpot & just bought a bone in 9 lb. I put in crockpot & it's higher than pot so glass lid is resting on lid, is that ok?

  73. Mary says:

I made the Slow Cooker Turkey Breast Recipe this last weekend and when I measured out all the spices I thought it was incorrect . I used about 1/2 to 3/4 of it on the meat and there was just so much of it! Other similar recipes list 1 tsp each of these seasonings and I wonder if yours is incorrect. On the good side, the breast was very tender and although a bit overwhelming in flavors, I will make it again with reduced amounts, perhaps half. I look forward to receiving your recipe emails!

  74. Karen says:

Can I use turkey thighs and legs like in a combo. Its what I have. Couldn't find a turkey breast. I LOVE your site, cookbooks, and food. Thank you!!!!

  75. Cyd says:

It should work fine. Just watch it closely so it doesn't overcook.

  76. Cherice says:

Can you cook the turkey on high so it's done sooner and if so how long on high ? I've never made any kind of turkey so excited to try this. Getting ingredients tomorrow. Hope Walmart will have the turkey.

  77. Cyd says:

Low and slow is a good rule on turkey!

  78. Amanda West says:

What if my turkey is slightly higher in one spot than my actual crockpot? The whole rest of the turkey fits fine except for one spot. Now the lid won't close down on it! ugh! do I cut the breast in half? wont that mess with the cooking time? I'm not sure how to do it because it's a bone-in so I'm facing cutting bone along with meat. Any tips from anybody would be helpful. I'm trying this recipe out in a few hours. Thanks!

  79. Cyd says:

I know some people have used foil as a lid and it works fine.

  80. Susan Frary says:

What is the best way to warm up the Turkey Breast on Thanksgiving if it is cooked this way the day before the Holiday? Thanks

  81. Sarah says:

I bought two 3 pound turkey breasts. Would you recommend the cook time staying the same?

  82. Dayna says:

How long did you cook two 3lb boneless breasts???

  83. Cyd says:

There are a couple of options to reheat your turkey. You will want to slice it before putting it in the fridge. FLASH REHEATING at a high temperature is a method often used by restaurants chefs. The concept is simple. Put room temperature food in shallow, covered pans, and put it in a 450 degree oven for approx. 7-15 minutes. It heats the food fast (in a FLASH) without cooking it further. This is the method I recommend if you don't need the oven set to a lower temperature for cooking other dishes at the same time.STANDARD REHEATING in a 350 degree oven is another option that normally will take 25-30 minutes for room temperature turkey to be heated through. This method is the best option if you have other dishes that need to cook in the oven at the same time at that temperature.SLOW COOKER you can also put it back in the slow cooker on warm and may want to add a little chicken broth so it doesn't dry out. That frees up some oven space. Watch it closely to prevent drying out.

  84. LuAnn Doyle says:

I bought two 3lb. Turkey breasts. I could not find a larger one. How long do I cook them if together and/or if I do seperately. Thank you.

  85. Sarah says:

I'd also like to know what the cooking time would be for 2 3.5 lb turkey breasts. I want to be sure I start it in time tomorrow.

  86. Ellen says:

What about all the onion? Diced, powered, and soup mix? Does that overpower the flavor?

  87. Cyd says:

It enhances the flavor of the turkey.

  88. Kate says:

I made this last thanksgiving for my son's preschool pot luck. It was so, so, so good. I used a 3 lb turkey breast and made the gravy using the gravy packet that came with the turkey plus the drippings from the crock pot. I got many compliments and requests for the recipe! Everyone was raving about it.Side note: first time that i made this i was out of dry onion soup mix. I ended up blending some spices from my pantry based on a recipe for dry onion soup mix I found online. It worked beautifully! Thank you for this wonderful recipe!

  89. Kathy says:

If the turkey is too tall for the crockpot lid to fit properly, do you think I can use foil?

  90. Mary says:

I made turkey for the first time in my crock-pot using your recipe and I really must say that this was the moistest and most flavorful turkey breast I have ever made not to mention the easiest! I have one of your books Six Sisters Stuff and you guys have the best recipe, craft and cleaning ideas. I'm a busy grandma now and only wish I'd had this as a mom, keep up the good work!

  91. Mary says:

no, not at all, turkey breast needs all the flavor it can get

  92. Cyd says:

Hi Mary! Thanks for your sweet comment. We are so glad that your turkey breast turned out so well. Thanks so much for stopping by our blog!! :)

  93. Danielle says:

when on Whole30, what do you replace the onion soup mix with?

  94. Julie wilkie says:

This info helped me out and I bought a 3 pd frozen dark and white meat butterball turkey roast

  95. Galit says:

Could I cook it on high at least part of the way? I don't know if I'll have 8-9 hours to cook this.

  96. Monika d. says:

I made this for Thanksgiving yesterday for my family of 10 and it was a huge hit! This has got to be the best turkey I have ever had. My family loved it and said they've never tasted a turkey so tender and flavorful

  97. Liz says:

I have in the freezer an 8lb bone in turkey breast! Can I cook this in my 6qt crockpot? Any idea on how long to cook ? Thank you

  98. Cyd says:

I'm not sure if your 6 quart crockpot will be able to hold a turkey breast that big. You'll have to check and see. You will want the internal temperature to reach 160 degrees F. For a 6-7 pound bone in turkey breast that is about 5 to 6 hours.

  99. Susan says:

I have 2 3lb boneless turkey breast. Should I cook with the sting on it, take off after done cooking or cut off before I put it in crockpot? Seems to me the breast will fall apart if I cut off before cooking.

  100. Cyd says:

It's fine if you leave the string on when cooking. Remember to remove it before serving.

  101. Lynn says:

I bought two 5 pound bone in Turkey Breasts and they fit fine in my oval Crockpot!

  102. Lynn says:

I think you can add any veggie you want ...just consider how long it would take cooking on low and add it then. I think the carrots would give the dripping a great flavor especially for the gravy.

  103. SRL says:

Great recipe, my family loved it. Thank you for posting. It took 10 hrs on low for mine to cook thru.

  104. Lisa says:

Would this work with turkey tenderloins ??

  105. Cyd says:

It should work great with turkey tenderloins. Just check every now and then so that it is not overcooked. It may not take as long to cook.

  106. Katie says:

Can I cook it overnight in the crock pot and than turn it to warm after 8-9 hours?

  107. Brandi Henderson says:

So I teach 7-8 graders and our students cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for our small community here in Sayler Park, OH as a fundraiser for a trip to Washington D.C in the spring. My teaching partner was the teacher in charge but I did volunteer to help, so she asked me to cook 30 pounds - 6 full turkey breasts. My partner and I borrowed crock pots from the teaching staff and I found your recipe for slow cooker turkey breast on Pinterest. On the day before we left for break, the crock pots cooked all day at school smelling up our classrooms with Thanksgiving goodness and the students did a magnificent job of serving up a wonderful dinner with all the fixin's and raised a lot of money in the process that same evening. The students were obviously the stars that night, but the one thing no one could stop talking about was the turkey, everyone raved about how delicious it was in flavor and tenderness. Even on the Monday back after our break, the first person I saw said they wanted this recipe because the turkey was just that good. Thank you!

  108. Cyd says:

Hi Brandi. You made our day!!!! I'll be sure to pass this sweet comment to my girls. Best of luck on your fundraising for a wonderful trip in the spring. And you sound like an amazing teacher. The kids are lucky to have great role models like you! Have a wonderful Christmas.

  109. Cyd says:

We have not tried that way cooking the turkey breast. That is a long time cooking and keeping it warm. It could dry out.

  110. vicki briggs says:

I have 2 3LB turkey breast. I did not find a answer to time cooking them together? Will it still be about 9 hrs?

  111. Cyd says:

You can cook them together. Just be sure to slice into them part way through the cooking time to test for doneness. You want them to be cooked through, but not overcooked so that they dry out.

  112. Melissa Rutherford says:

Made this today, and it was delicious! I had an 8 pound turkey breast. I added a little bit of thyme and a little poultry seasoning, and everyone complemented on how good it was. Will definitely make again!

  113. Crystal says:

Is this recipe using a frozen or thawed turkey breast?

  114. Becky says:

Is it possible to do two turkey breasts in one oblong slow cooker? If so do I need to increase the time in cooker?

  115. Cecilia says:

Can I use a bone-in turkey breast? If so how long should it cook?

  116. Camille Beckstrand says:

Bone-in will work great! The cooking time will stay the same.

  117. Camille Beckstrand says:

I have never cooked two in the same slow cooker. Usually I recommend that you use a second slow cooker, but if you don't have one, it should work (as long as they both fit). The cooking time will need to increase, but I am not sure exactly how much (depends on the size of the turkey and how hot your slow cooker cooks). I would recommend cooking it a half hour longer (so 8.5-9.5 hours) and then checking it to see if it's finished. If not, just cook it at half hour increments and see how it does. I hope that it works! Best of luck to you!!

  118. Momma Cyd says:

If they fit loosely, you should be able to cook 2 at the same time. You may need to add a little cooking time. Just be sure it's cooked through and the internal temp reaches 165 degrees.

  119. Rebecca says:

I was a little bit nervous making this in the crockpot but it turned out to be so delicious! My daughter who is a picky eater and never eats turkey loved this. She said it was so delicious. It is very easy to make and I like that I was able to work on my other dishes. Thank you so much!

  120. Karen says:

Made your slow cooker turkey breast for thanksgiving and it was awesome very tasty and moist, cooked on high for 4 hrs and was done, thank you

  121. Momma Cyd says:

We are so glad to hear that it was delicious! Thanks Karen for letting us know! Have a Merry Christmas.

  122. Dana Guffey says:

I made this last night for our Christmas Eve supper (and also for Christmas Day) and it was AWESOME!!! It is the most delicious and easiest turkey breast recipe I have ever made. The only complaint was that my husband wouldn't quit "sampling" it before mealtime. This is my new go to recipe for holidays and company. Thanks so much!!!

  123. Huey O. says:

This recipe sounds delicious! I'm thinking about making it for Easter brunch for our family. I have a 3 lb. boneless turkey breast (to go with a ham). Is there any chance I could use this recipe in my Instant Pot instead of a slow cooker? I saw your recipe for your Instant Pot Turkey Breast, but like the "flavor profile" of this one better!

  124. Momma Cyd says:

You can follow the directions for our Instant Pot Turkey Breast with the liquied needed and add the seasonings for the slow cooker turkey breast for the flavor you want.

  125. Caroline McKoy says:

I have enjoyed using your recipes for a couple of years. My husband does most of our cooking because he enjoys it and I am SO over it! Although we have sodium limitations and lactose intolerance, we have learned to overcome those by making substitutions that work very well. We do not use Prepear at all. But we do love your recipes and Kristin and Camille's demonstrations. Thank you to you and all your sisters for all you do.i

  126. Momma Cyd says:

Hi Caroline. Thanks so much for your sweet comment. You made our whole week! We are so glad you are liking the recipes and videos. We appreciate your support. Have a terrific weekend!

  127. Cassie says:

Should I cook breast side down?

  128. Momma Cyd says:

    Breast side up.
